Stay at Your Post

What Is Your Post?

You have responsibilities, things that are expected of you. Your post is whatever you are responsible to do.

Where Do Responsibilities Come From?

God

You are always accountable to God. Always remember that you are His, He gives you commandments because He loves you.

Abraham 3:25
And we will prove them herewith, to see if they will do all things whatsoever the Lord their God shall command them;

1 John 5:3
For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

Yourself

Some of these responsibilities may be self motivated. Having high standards and goals will keep you on the path that leads back to God.

D&C 58:27
Verily I say, men should be anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness;

Parents
God gave you parents and they gave you life. They love you more than anyone else in this world and give you instructions to help you learn and grow.

Colossians 3:2
Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.

Family Members

Family loyalty is very important in helping you become someone others can depend on. God gave you these special people to spend your life with and they need your love and support.

Alma 43:47
And again, the Lord has said that: Ye shall defend your families even unto bloodshed.

Mosiah 4:15
But ye will teach them to walk in the ways of truth and soberness; ye will teach them to love one another, and to serve one another.

Leaders

Good leaders, whether in church, school, work, other organizations, desire to help you succeed. You will receive direction from them.

1 Thessalonians 5:12-13
And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you; And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake.

How Can You Stay At Your Post?

All of these people are counting on you to fulfill your responsibilities!

Be Obedient

Do what you are asked to do right away, and do it with a good attitude.

D&C 123:17
Therefore, dearly beloved brethren, let us cheerfully do all things that lie in our power;

Be Responsible

Learn what is expected of you and be willing to act in a way that others know they can depend on you.

D&C 107:99
Wherefore, now let every man learn his duty, and to act in the office in which he is appointed, in all diligence.

Be Where You Should Be

Another aspect of your post is your place. This means that you are where you are supposed to be. When you are given an assignment you should stay there while you are working on that assignment.

1 Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

Be Present

Focus on your task. You may physically be where you are supposed to be, but if you are not focused on what you are doing then your mind is not present.

Some responsibilities are never fully fulfilled, they are ongoing and are just a part of being trustworthy. This requires diligence of mind so that you can be responsible through whatever else is happening.

D&C 11:20
Behold, this is your work, to keep my commandments, yea, with all your might, mind and strength.

Be Diligent

Stay at your post means that you stay actively working to accomplish your responsibilities until they are fulfilled.

Luke 12:43
Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.
